Review manufacturer specifications and detailed lab measurements for the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens. Compare the specs and measurements of this lens with other lenses.Although there are two very good EF-S zooms (10-22 f/3.5-4.5 and 17-55 f/2.8) Canon really has not produced many EF-S primes. Their approach seems to be that EF-S users use Zooms. The cameras seem to change about every 12-18 months, the lenses last about 10-15 years, so it's worth deciding what format you are going to go with and getting a body Matthieu, I have the Sigma Super Wide II 24mm f2.8 and consider it quite a good 24mm. I then purchased a Minolta MC W. Rokkor 24mm f2.8 which I found slightly better. I finally found an Olympus OM 24mm f2.8 which is even better. In any case, the Sigma is definitely an excellent lens for the price it can be found for.
Interestingly the 14-24mm f/2.8 is also more affordable at "only" 1300USD/1300EUR (vs 1600USD/1400EUR). In terms of construction, the 14-24mm f/2.8 ART is almost a twin of the 12-24mm f/2.8 ART and the same characteristics apply - most importantly a superb build quality. The body is based on a combination of metal components and Sigma's TSC
The 14-24mm is sharp all over at every aperture. It's a little softer at f/2.8 at 14mm in the far corner of an FX frame, but it's as insanely good at Nikon's MTF curves claim. No other ultra-wide comes close. The 14-24mm is as free from dark corners and as sharp wide-open as my 14mm AF is at f/5.6!
